Are you moving to a new city or shifting to a different area in Delhi? Do you want to change the branch of your savings account? Many banks like Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC, ICICI,
and State Bank of India (SBI) now allow you to transfer your bank branch online. But to make the process smooth, there are a few important things you should know.
Can You Transfer a Branch Online?
Yes, most banks now offer an online branch transfer service. You just need to fill out an online form and submit it to your current branch.
Once your branch is changed, the IFSC code of your account will also change. That’s why you should update services like net banking, auto debit, and SIPs accordingly.
Which Accounts Cannot Be Transferred?
If your KYC (Know Your Customer) is not complete, you cannot transfer your account. Also, accounts that are frozen or inactive (no transactions for 2 years) cannot be transferred either.
Don’t Forget to Update Auto-Payments and SIPs
If your account has EMIs, auto-debit payments, or SIPs, their IFSC codes will also change when the branch is updated. So, make sure you update these services to avoid any failed payments.
What Documents Are Needed?
To request a branch transfer, you need to provide the following documents:
ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, Driving License)
Address proof
Account details (Passbook or bank statement)
Checkbook (if available)
What Happens to the Locker Facility?
If you have a locker in your current branch, it will not be shifted automatically. You’ll need to close the existing locker
and apply for a new locker at your new branch. It’s better to check locker availability in advance, as it may not be guaranteed.
