Now Open RD & PPF Accounts at Post Offices with Aadhaar—No Forms Needed

Post Office Update: In a move to make banking easier, the Post Office has made it possible to open Recurring Deposit (RD) and Public Provident Fund (PPF) accounts using Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC.

This means that you no longer need to fill out paper forms—not even for transactions like deposits or withdrawals.

What Has Changed?

Earlier, Aadhaar-based e-KYC was only available for select schemes like MIS, TD, KVP, and NSC. Now, the same facility is available nationwide for RD and PPF accounts.

You can now complete the following tasks using biometric Aadhaar verification at the post office:

Open a new RD or PPF account

Take a loan against your RD or PPF

Repay the loan (EMI)

Withdraw from the PPF account (no withdrawal form required)

Aadhaar Number Will Be Protected

All Aadhaar numbers will now appear in a masked format on documents—only the last 4 digits will be shown.

If a full Aadhaar number is visible on any photocopy, post office staff must black it out using a pen to protect your privacy.

How the New Process Works

Post Office Assistant (PA) will take your biometric (fingerprint) scan to get Aadhaar consent.

A second fingerprint scan will be used to verify your identity during account opening or any transaction.

No paper forms like pay-in slips or withdrawal forms are needed.

The amount you mention during account setup will be treated as your first deposit.

If the deposit is made from a Post Office Savings Account, there’s no need to fill SB-7 form.

Services Coming Soon Under Aadhaar Biometric

The Postal Department also said that these services will soon be offered using Aadhaar-based biometrics:

Closing your RD or PPF account

Updating nominee details

Transferring your account from one post office to another

This update has made post office banking faster, safer, and completely paperless. Now, managing your RD and PPF accounts is more convenient and digital.

So next time, you can simply use your Aadhaar to get the job done—no forms required.
