UIDAI Releases New Document List

This list explains which documents will now be accepted for creating or updating Aadhaar cards.
Who Do These New Rules Apply To?
Indian citizens
Indians living abroad (OCI cardholders)
Children over 5 years of age
People living in India on Long Term Visas (LTV)
Which Documents Are Accepted?
The Indian passport is valid for all four types of proof — identity (ID), address, relationship, and date of birth.
Other accepted documents include:
PAN card
Voter ID
Ration Card
Driving License
Bank passbook
Pension Card
Any government-issued certificate
The required documents will depend on what kind of update or service you are applying for.
One Aadhaar per Person Rule
UIDAI has clearly mentioned that if a person mistakenly has more than one Aadhaar number, only the first one issued will be considered valid. All other Aadhaar numbers will be cancelled.
Rules for OCI and Foreign Nationals
Foreign citizens and OCI cardholders must submit documents such as a foreign passport, visa, citizenship certificate, or a residence permit issued by the FRRO.
Want to Change Your Name, Gender, or Date of Birth?
To update your name, date of birth, or gender in Aadhaar, you must provide a self-declaration along with a gazette notification, medical certificate, or birth certificate.
Before doing any Aadhaar-related task, visit the UIDAI website and check the updated list of documents to avoid issues.
