YouTube is set to introduce a major update to its monetization policy, aiming to take strict action against creators who repeatedly post similar or machine-like videos
. This change will come into effect on July 15. The goal is to detect and stop videos that lack originality and are made only to get views.
Focus on promoting original content
In a support page update, the Google-owned platform shared that it will now apply even stricter rules when checking “mass-produced” and “repetitive” content under the YouTube Partner Programme (YPP).
YouTube said it has always supported genuine and original content, and this step is another move in that direction.
What are the new rules on YouTube?
YouTube’s current monetization policy already says that to earn money, creators must upload original content. The new rules now stress two main points:
Content must be original: Creators cannot use someone else’s content unless it is changed significantly. If they do use it, it must be edited enough to make it appear new and unique.
Repetitive content is not allowed: Videos made using the same pattern again and again just to gain views will now be seen as a problem.
This includes content with little effort, clickbait thumbnails, or videos that are neither informative nor entertaining.
Will AI-generated videos be affected?
Although YouTube hasn’t clearly said this, many believe that AI-generated videos—especially those with voices or reactions added automatically without any human touch—may also fall under these new stricter rules.
Now quality content is the key to earning
YouTube already has basic conditions for monetization, like having 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 valid public watch hours in the past 12 months or 10 million valid Shorts views in the past 90 days.
But now, even if these conditions are met, YouTube will also check how original and valuable the content is before allowing monetization.
This new step from YouTube sends a clear message to those trying to make quick money with less effort.
From now on, only hard work, creativity, and genuine content will succeed on the platform.
