SBI Outage: On Wednesday, July 2, the State Bank of India (SBI)—the country’s largest public sector bank—faced a technical issue that disrupted several major digital services.
According to DownDetector, over 400 users reported problems around 1:00 AM, mainly with services like YONO, UPI, RTGS, NEFT, Internet Banking (INB), and IMPS.
When Will SBI Services Be Restored?
In response to the outage, SBI posted an update on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying that all services would be fully restored by 2:30 PM today.
The bank apologized for the inconvenience and advised customers to use UPI Lite and ATM services in the meantime.
This technical issue has come at a time when digital transactions and mobile banking are used more than ever.
Banking experts say such outages highlight the need for strong IT infrastructure and continuous upgrades in public sector banks.
What to Do If SBI Digital Services Are Down?
If you face issues with YONO, Internet Banking, NEFT, RTGS, or UPI, don’t panic. You can still make payments or access cash through two alternatives:
1. Use UPI Lite for Quick Payments
UPI Lite is a lighter version of UPI that can work even when your bank’s server is down. It allows small payments (up to ₹500) without entering your UPI PIN every time.
How to Use UPI Lite:
Open any UPI-enabled app (PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, GPay).
Tap the UPI Lite option on the home screen.
Link your SBI account and activate UPI Lite.
Load your UPI Lite wallet with up to ₹2,000.
Make instant payments—ideal for groceries, tea stalls, rickshaws, and daily travel.
No need for SMS or PIN for every small transaction.
2. Withdraw Cash from SBI ATM
SBI’s ATM services continue to work even during digital outages.
Visit any SBI or other bank ATM to withdraw cash.
Check your account balance using an ATM.
Make in-store payments using your SBI Debit Card at POS machines.
Use the card for bill payments or home deliveries.
