Parking at New Delhi Railway Station Now Costs ₹250 for 15 Minutes

If you’re heading to New Delhi Railway Station, you might want to carry at least ₹250 in your pocket, especially if you’re taking your own car.

From June 25, the Northern Railway is introducing a new access-controlled parking system at the Ajmeri Gate side of the station, aimed at reducing traffic and congestion.

Here’s What’s Changing

To control traffic outside the station, especially during peak hours, the Railways is enforcing time-based parking charges:

• First 8 minutes: Free

• After 8 minutes: ₹50

• After 15 minutes: ₹200
  These charges will be deducted via FASTag or a manual token system. Automatic boom barriers will be placed at the entry and exit points.

Why the Change?

According to railway officials, many people park outside the station for a long time while dropping off or picking up someone.

This leads to traffic jams, especially on the Ajmeri Gate side. The new system is designed to ease congestion and improve vehicle movement near the station.

Who Will Manage This System?

The Railways has awarded the contract to a private company for an annual license fee of ₹14.5 crore.

• The company will also deploy marshals to manage traffic and ensure parking runs smoothly.

• A similar system was introduced earlier, but the previous contractor abandoned the project mid-way.

What If You Need Long-Term Parking?

If you’re planning to park for a longer time:

• Use the dedicated long-term parking areas inside or near the station

• Charges will apply as per the prescribed parking rates

What’s the Situation Right Now?

Currently, heavy traffic and long queues are a regular scene, especially during morning and evening rush hours.

• The Ajmeri Gate and Paharganj sides are the worst affected

• Taxis, autos, and private cars block the road

• Some drivers even drop passengers 600–700 meters away to avoid traffic, making it tough for travelers with luggage
