When Will Other Holy Places in Uttarakhand Open?

The four Dhams of Uttarakhand are Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. Here’s when their doors will open:

  • Gangotri & Yamunotri: April 30 (on Akshaya Tritiya)
  • Kedarnath: May 2
  • Badrinath: May 4

The opening and closing dates are traditionally announced on Mahashivratri (for opening) and Vijayadashami (for closing). Kedarnath’s doors typically open two days before Badrinath.

Why Are the Doors Closed?

The doors of these holy sites are closed during the winter (October to November) due to heavy snowfall, which obstructs the roads.

During this time, the idol of Lord Shiva is moved to Ukhimath (Omkareshwar Temple) for worship.

Similarly, after Badrinath’s doors close, the idol is worshipped as the ‘Utsav Moorti’ in Narasimha Temple in Joshimath.
