In an innovative move to enhance passenger experience, Air India, under the Tata Group, has partnered with Apple to integrate the Apple AirTag into its baggage tracking system.
This collaboration makes Air India the first airline in Asia to offer this technology to its passengers, allowing them to easily track their luggage in real-time via their Apple devices.
How Does It Work?
Air India passengers can now track their baggage seamlessly using the Apple AirTag through the Find My app on iPhones, iPads, or Macs.
The integration provides a significant upgrade to the airline’s existing baggage tracking features, adding an extra layer of security and convenience.
Key Features:
Real-time Tracking: Passengers can monitor the location of their baggage in real-time via the Air India mobile app or website.
Automatic Updates: Once a passenger adds their trip in the “My Trips” section, they will receive baggage updates immediately after check-in.
QR Code Tracking: By scanning the barcode on their baggage receipt, passengers can check the status of their bags.
Apple AirTag Integration: If baggage is delayed or lost, passengers can use the AirTag to track it via the ‘Find My’ app on Apple devices.
Process for Using AirTag Tracking:
Report Lost Baggage: If your bag with an attached AirTag does not arrive at the destination, you can report it at the Air India baggage counter.
Share Location via ‘Find My’ App: Using the “Share Item Location” feature in the ‘Find My’ app on your Apple device, you can generate a link to the location of your baggage.
Submit the Link: You can share the location link along with the Property Irregularity Report (PIR) number on Air India’s mobile app or website:
Mobile App: Visit the ‘Customer Support Portal,’ select ‘Baggage,’ and share the link under the ‘Lost and Found Check-in Baggage’ section.
Website: Go to the ‘Customer Support Portal’ on the Air India website, select ‘Lost and Found Check-in Baggage,’ and upload the AirTag location link with the PIR number.
Track Baggage: Once the link is shared, passengers will receive an email with a backlink to track their baggage.
Air India’s authorized teams will use the AirTag location to locate and deliver the baggage as quickly as possible.
Why This Matters:
With over 100 million baggage items transported annually, Air India aims to reduce delays further, ensuring that 99.6% of bags reach passengers on time.
However, with this new AirTag integration, passengers can now be more confident in tracking their lost baggage faster and more efficiently.
Air India’s new baggage tracking system, powered by Apple AirTag, promises to make travel smoother, reduce the stress of lost baggage, and provide quicker resolution to any baggage issues that may arise during the flight.
