If you haven’t yet fulfilled your dream of owning a house, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) can help.
This scheme, initiated by the central government, benefits both urban and rural populations.
Recently, significant changes have been made in the rules for obtaining housing under government schemes in Uttar Pradesh.
These changes apply to both the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) and the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana (Rural) in the state.
Under the new rules, housing permissions will now only be granted in the name of women.
It is now mandatory to include the name of the female head of the household under these schemes, although some conditional relaxations have been introduced.
Key Changes to Empower Women
1) All new houses sanctioned under these schemes will now be registered in the name of the female head of the household.
2) For houses already sanctioned in men’s names, the female head’s name must be added as co-owner.
3) The primary goal of this rule is to promote economic and social empowerment of women in both rural and urban areas, enabling them to own property and work toward self-reliance.
Understanding PM Awas Yojana
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) was launched by the Government of India in 2015 to provide financial assistance to underprivileged families for building permanent houses.
This scheme has benefited millions of people across the country.
Eligibility is determined based on specific criteria set by the government, ensuring that only the needy receive assistance.
However, there are cases where individuals misuse the scheme by submitting fake documents. Such actions are illegal, and those caught face strict penalties.
Rules in Other States
The recent changes in Uttar Pradesh apply solely to that state. Other states in India continue to operate the PM Awas Yojana without any modifications to the rule
