The Government of India is considering a new rule related to FASTag that could change the way toll payments work on highways and expressways.
The aim is to eliminate long queues at toll booths and prevent repeated deductions from FASTag cards.
The proposed rule could introduce a toll pass system for private vehicles, allowing for a simpler and more affordable way to pay tolls.
What Is the New FASTag Rule?
Under the new proposal, private vehicle owners will have the option to pay a one-time fee of Rs 3,000 annually for unlimited toll access on all national highways and expressways.
This will not only make toll payments more affordable but will also make the toll gate process faster and more efficient.
The government is also considering introducing a lifetime toll pass, where a one-time payment of Rs 30,000 will cover tolls for the next 15 years.
This plan aims to ease toll collection and reduce traffic congestion at toll booths.
Nitin Gadkari’s Statement
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, mentioned that the government is looking into offering both monthly
and annual toll passes for private vehicles. He added that 26% of total toll revenue comes from private vehicles, while 74% comes from commercial vehicles.
If the new rule is implemented, FASTag holders could enjoy seamless travel on highways and expressways without having to worry about toll payments at each booth.
