If you’re looking to make a significant income through farming, here’s a unique idea for you. Black pepper farming is a great way to earn substantial money,
and it’s different from traditional farming methods. Farmers are now making huge profits from growing black pepper. One such success story is of Nanado Mark, a farmer from Meghalaya.
He cultivates black pepper on his 5-acre farm, and his success has earned him the prestigious Padmashree award from the government.
How Nanado Mark Became Successful
Nanado Mark started by growing a variety of black pepper called Kari Mund. He used organic fertilizers to ensure healthy growth.
In the beginning, he planted around 10,000 black pepper plants with an investment of just Rs 10,000. Over time, he expanded his plantation.
The black pepper produced on his farm is now in high demand worldwide.
Mark’s farm is located in the hills of West Garo Hills in Meghalaya, which provides an ideal environment for black pepper cultivation.
Where Black Pepper Grows Best
The largest producer of black pepper in India is Kerala, which contributes 98% of the country’s total black pepper production.
Other states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka also produce black pepper, though in smaller quantities. You can also find some black pepper farming in the Konkan region of Maharashtra.
How to Profit from Black Pepper Farming
You can sell your black pepper either in the local market or directly to shopkeepers. The current market price for black pepper is between Rs 350 to Rs 400 per kg.
Once the pepper pods are harvested, they need to be carefully dried and processed.
To get the best quality, the seeds are soaked in water for a while and then dried. This process enhances the color and quality of the seeds.
