The relief from the intense cold of the past few days is now over as the weather begins to change once more.
North India is once again experiencing a cold wave. Delhi, in particular, recorded its lowest temperature in four days yesterday, with the minimum temperature dropping to 6.6 degrees Celsius.
This temperature drop has been happening since Thursday, when the minimum was 11 degrees Celsius.
Fog and Cold Winds in Delhi
On Tuesday morning, Delhi experienced a noticeable drop in temperature with cold winds and light fog in some areas.
The minimum temperature was 6.6°C, down from 7.8°C the previous day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also forecasted rain in Delhi on February 1.
Additionally, the IMD has issued a four-day fog alert starting January 28, with the minimum temperature expected to be between 7°C and 11°C.
Cold Wave in Other Regions and Air Quality Concerns
The cold wave conditions are likely to continue in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana, especially in isolated areas.
Dense fog is expected in Uttar Pradesh until January 30, mainly at night and during the morning. Bhubaneswar, Odisha, also faced dense fog on Tuesday, reducing visibility.
In terms of air quality, Delhi’s pollution levels remain concerning. The air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 258 today, falling in the ‘poor’ category.
In contrast, the AQI was recorded at 191 on Saturday morning, which was considered ‘moderate.’
At the same time, a large number of people have gathered at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh, despite the cold weather.
The IMD predicts the minimum temperature in Prayagraj to be between 8°C and 10°C for the next three days, starting today.
