The Maharashtra government is introducing new rules for Fastag to improve traffic management and make toll collection more efficient.
These rules will be effective from April 1, 2025. Under the new regulations, it will be mandatory for all vehicles to have a Fastag installed.
This change is aimed at reducing fuel consumption, saving time, and making the toll collection process more transparent.
Fastag Rules and Fines
Under the new rules, vehicles without Fastag will be required to pay double the toll fees. Both private and commercial vehicles will be affected,
and drivers must install Fastag on their vehicles to avoid fines. This rule encourages timely use of Fastag, which helps streamline toll collection.
Government’s Objective Behind the Fastag Rule
The main goal of implementing Fastag on all vehicles is to reduce traffic congestion and fuel wastage at toll plazas.
The Maharashtra government is also supporting the Digital India campaign by promoting digital payments.
This change will increase transparency in toll collection and improve revenue accuracy for the state. The government aims to create smart, digital toll plazas as part of its modernization efforts.
Fastag uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to make toll payments without stopping at toll plazas.
This system reduces cash transactions and long queues, making travel more convenient for drivers.
