New Rules for Tourists Visiting Saudi Arabia

If you are planning a trip to Saudi Arabia, there is an important update for you. Saudi Arabia has introduced a new rule for tourists traveling on Umrah or general travel visas.

This rule aims to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in the country.

Meningitis Vaccine is Now Mandatory

Saudi Arabia is a popular destination for Indian travelers, with around 2.5 million Indians visiting in 2022. This number is expected to grow to 7.5 million by 2030.

To ensure public health, the Saudi government has made it mandatory for tourists to take the meningitis vaccine.

Tourists must show a certificate proving they received the meningitis vaccine at least 10 days before their trip. Children under one year of age are exempt from this rule.

Polio Vaccination Guidelines for Certain Travelers

The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) has instructed airlines to enforce these health rules.

Airlines must check that all passengers have valid vaccination certificates. In addition, polio vaccination guidelines have been introduced.

These polio-related rules apply only to travelers from specific countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kenya, Congo, and Mozambique.

Tourists from these nations must provide a polio vaccination certificate if their transit stay in Saudi Arabia exceeds 12 hours.

Indonesia Also Tightens Health Measures

Saudi Arabia is not the only country introducing strict health protocols. Indonesia now requires tourists to fill out an Electronic Satusahat Health Pass (SSHP).

This form requires travelers to share details about their health condition and travel history.

These measures align with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) global health safety plan, particularly to prevent outbreaks like mpox (monkeypox).

Both countries emphasize the safety of citizens and visitors through these updated health requirements.
