The PM Internship Scheme was announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during her budget speech on July 23 last year.
Recently, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs Harsh Malhotra informed the Lok Sabha that 28,141 candidates have already received internship opportunities under this scheme. The internship program lasts for 12 months.
Eligibility Criteria for Applicants
To apply for this scheme, candidates must meet the following conditions:
Age Limit: Applicants should be between 21 and 24 years old.
Employment Status: The candidate should not be a full-time employee of any company or organization.
Educational Qualification
Minimum qualification: 10th standard pass.
Candidates with qualifications like ITI certificates, diplomas (Polytechnic), or degrees (BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Pharma) can also apply.
Benefits of the PM Internship Scheme
This scheme provides several benefits to young individuals:
Internship in Top Companies: Candidates will get an opportunity to intern in top 500 companies, helping them gain real-world experience and learn how to handle challenges in professional life.
Government’s Target: The central government aims to provide internship opportunities to 1 crore youth within 5 years.

Financial Support for Interns
Interns will receive financial support during their internship:
Monthly Stipend: ₹5000 per month
1) ₹4500 will be paid by the government.
2) ₹500 will be contributed by the company (from CSR funds).
3) Companies can pay more than ₹500 based on performance, attendance, and company policy.
One-time Payment: ₹6000 will be provided after joining the internship.
Important Conditions Before Applying
1) The annual income of the applicant’s family should not exceed ₹8 lakh.
2) The applicant or their parents/spouse should not hold a government job.
3) The applicant should not be pursuing regular studies or employed elsewhere.
4) Required documents include Secondary/Higher Secondary Certificates, ITI or Polytechnic Diplomas, or Graduation Degree.
