Delhi Govt releases List of Public and Optional Holidays for 2025

The Delhi Government has announced the list of public and optional holidays for 2025.

As in previous years, both public and optional holidays have been set for government and private office employees. The list includes 18 public holidays and 33 optional holidays.

Employees can choose any two days from the 33 optional holidays to take leave without a salary deduction. Here are the holidays for 2025.

Public Holiday List 2025 (18 Days)

The Delhi Government has declared the following public holidays for 2025.

On these days, all government offices and institutions will remain closed.

Republic Day: January 26 (Sunday)

Mahashivratri: February 14 (Friday)

Holi: March 14 (Saturday)

Eid-ul-Fitr: March 31 (Sunday)

Mahavir Jayanti: April 10 (Friday)

Good Friday: April 18 (Friday)

Buddha Purnima: May 12 (Monday)

Id-ul-Azha (Bakrid): June 7 (Saturday)

Muharram: July 6 (Sunday)

Independence Day: August 15 (Friday)

Janmashtami: August 16 (Saturday)

Baravafat: September 5 (Friday)

Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra: October 2 (Thursday)

Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti: October 7 (Friday)

Deepavali: October 20 (Monday)

Guru Nanak Jayanti: November 5 (Wednesday)

Christmas: December 25 (Thursday)

Optional Holidays for 2025 (33 Days)

Optional holidays allow employees to take leave on days of their choice. Two of these holidays can be selected during the year.

February 2: Vasant Panchami

February 12: Guru Ravidas Jayanti

February 19: Shivaji Jayanti

February 23: Swami Dayanand Jayanti

March 14: Dole Yatra

March 28: Jumat-ul-Vida

March 30: Chaitra Shukladi (Gudi Padwa)

April 6: Ram Navami

April 13: Vaisakhi

April 20: Easter Sunday

May 9: Rabindranath Tagore’s Birth Anniversary

June 27: Rath Yatra

August 9: Raksha Bandhan

August 15: Parsi New Year

August 27: Ganesh Chaturthi

September 5: Onam

September 29 to October 1: Dussehra (Saptami, Mahashtami, and Mahanavami)

October 10: Karwa Chauth

October 22-23: Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj

October 29: Chhath Puja

November 24: Guru Tegh Bahadur Martyrdom Day

December 24: Christmas Eve

This list includes 33 optional holidays for employees to choose from in 2025.

National Holiday List

Republic Day (26th January), Independence Day (15th August), and Gandhi Jayanti (2nd October) are the three national holidays observed across India each year.

In 2025, government employees in Delhi will enjoy both public and optional holidays.
