Are you relocating to a new city or have you recently changed your address? If so, make sure to update your new address on your Aadhaar.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is urging citizens to review their Aadhaar card details, particularly those who haven’t made any updates in the last ten years.
UIDAI has extended the deadline for updating your Aadhaar card for free to December 14, 2024.
As per the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations, 2016, “An Aadhaar number holder must update their identity and address at least once every 10 years from the date of receiving the Aadhaar number.”
UIDAI announced on social media platform X, “For the convenience of millions of Aadhaar holders, UIDAI has extended the free online document upload service until December 14, 2024.
This free service is available exclusively on the myAadhaar portal. UIDAI continues to encourage individuals to keep their Aadhaar documents updated.”

Aadhaar is a unique number assigned to each citizen, and no one can have a duplicate as it is linked to their biometrics. The biometric process helps in detecting fake identities.
In a press release from PIB on November 10, 2022, it was stated, “Citizens who received their Aadhaar 10 years ago and have not updated it since are encouraged to update their documents.
UIDAI had previously urged people to keep their documents up to date. The recent gazette notification also clarified that citizens must update their details every 10 years. Keeping Aadhaar documents updated ensures better service and ease of living.”
What is the fee or charge for submitting documents for Aadhaar updation?
