The Railways announced that starting November 1, 2024, passengers can only book train tickets up to 60 days before their journey.
Importantly, the day of travel does not count in this 60-day limit.
Exceptions for Certain Trains
Some special trains, such as the Taj Express and Gomti Express, will not be affected by this new rule.
The booking rules for these trains will remain the same. Additionally, foreign tourists can still book tickets up to 365 days in advance without any changes.
Reducing Black Marketing
The Railways explained that only 13 percent of people book train tickets 120 days in advance, while most passengers book their tickets within 45 days.
Booking far in advance often leads to issues with cancellations and refunds. This new decision is aimed at reducing black marketing and ticket scalping.
E-Ticketing Improvements
In response to passenger complaints, the Railways launched an e-ticketing system on June 14, 2018.
This system allows users to check train information without logging in and see seat availability easily.
A new feature called ‘My Transaction’ lets users view their booked tickets by journey date, booking date, or upcoming journeys.
Indian Railways at a Glance
The improved user interface makes it easier to book tickets on mobile devices, desktops, laptops, and tablets.
Indian Railways is the fourth largest railway network in the world, spanning over 67,000 km, and serves about 24 million passengers daily.
