Government Rehires Retired Railway Employees

Before Diwali, the government has given a special gift to retired railway employees by re-hiring them to fill staffing shortages.

Indian Railways will re-employ retired staff under 65 years old for positions like supervisors and track men. This initiative aims to address the shortfall in employees.

According to Business Today, these jobs will initially last for two years, with an option for extension.

General managers in all railway zones can recruit retired employees based on their medical fitness and work performance from the last five years.

Railway Board Recruitment Drive for 25,000 Posts

To further manage the employee shortage, the Railway Board has started a recruitment drive for 25,000 posts.

They are also re-hiring retired workers temporarily to fill some vacant positions.

Key Requirements

1) Retired employees must have a good performance rating for five years before retirement.

2) No pending vigilance or disciplinary cases.

Those re-hired will receive their last in-hand salary minus their basic pension, along with travel allowances. However, no additional benefits or salary increases will be given.

Urgent Need in North-Western Railway

More than 10,000 positions are vacant in the North-Western Railway alone, making it difficult to operate trains smoothly.

The Railway Board has emphasized the importance of re-employing retired workers to fill urgent roles, especially in supervisory and critical positions, to ensure smoother operations and reduce accidents.
