Government approves Key Decisions to Benefit Employees and Farmers

The central government has made several important decisions in today’s cabinet meeting, bringing good news for around one crore government employees and pensioners.

The government has approved a 3 percent increase in dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR), benefitting about 49 lakh employees and 60 lakh pensioners.

This increase comes just before the festive season, providing financial relief to many. The DA for central government employees has now risen from 50 percent to 53 percent, effective immediately after today’s approval.

Dearness Allowance with Arrears to be Paid in October

Employees and pensioners will receive their increased dearness allowance along with arrears in their October salary.

The revised DA will be applied retroactively from July 1, 2024, meaning employees will get arrears for the months of July to September.

This increase comes at a perfect time, just 15 days before the Diwali festival, adding to the festive cheer for government employees.

Other Decisions: Coastal Shipping Bill and MSP Increase

In addition to the DA hike, the cabinet has also approved the Coastal Shipping Bill 2024, which will benefit coastal areas. More details will be shared in the upcoming cabinet briefing.

Another key decision was the increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Rabi crops.

The MSP for six Rabi crops has been raised by 2 to 7 percent, with the biggest hike in the MSP for wheat.

This decision is aimed at supporting farmers ahead of the Rabi season.
