Air Fares Rise Ahead of Festive Season

Airfares are going up significantly as the festive season approaches. The average cost of a one-way ticket on major domestic routes has risen by 10-15% for Diwali.

In some cases, ticket prices for flights to cities in Kerala during Onam are even higher, with a 20-25% increase.

Price Hikes on Hyderabad and Goa Routes

Similarly, during the same period, the ticket price on the Mumbai-Hyderabad route has increased by 21% to ₹5,162.

Fares on the Delhi-Goa and Delhi-Ahmedabad routes have also seen a rise of 19%, now costing ₹5,999

and ₹4,930, respectively. The analysis also shows that fares on other routes have increased by 1-16%.

Specific Route Increases

An analysis by the travel website ixigo shows that the average one-way fare for direct flights in the economy category from Delhi to Chennai has gone up by 25%.

During the period from October 30 to November 5, the price has reached Rs 7,618, compared to Rs 6,094 during November 10-16 last year.

Similarly, the cost of flights from Mumbai to Hyderabad has increased by 21% to Rs 5,162. Prices for flights from Delhi to Goa

and Delhi to Ahmedabad have also risen by 19% to Rs 5,999 and Rs 4,930, respectively. The analysis indicates that fares on some other routes have increased by 1-16%.

Demand Drives Price Hike

According to Ixigo Group co-CEO Rajnish Kumar, the growing demand for travel during Diwali is driving up airfares compared to last year.

However, the analysis also revealed that airfares on some routes, such as Bengaluru-Hyderabad and Mumbai-Jammu, are actually lower than last year.
