How to Cancel Local Train Tickets on the UTS App and Get a Full Refund

Indian Railways is known as the lifeline of the country, and the UTS app, launched in 2014, simplifies the process of buying unreserved class tickets.

The app now allows users to buy tickets for Mumbai local trains from anywhere, including Delhi, as geo-fencing restrictions have been removed.

Passengers must board local trains within one hour of booking and non-suburban trains within three hours; otherwise, the ticket will be invalid.

Booking and Ticket Options

Local train tickets for journeys up to 200 km must be purchased on the day of travel. The UTS app also accepts payments via debit and credit cards, and all service charges have been removed.

The app promotes digital ticketing and self-service, allowing users to avoid queues and additional fees. It supports unreserved tickets, platform tickets, and monthly passes.

Ticket Cancellation and Refund Process

Cancellation of paperless tickets is not permitted until August 16, 2024. For paper tickets, cancellations are possible if the ticket has not been printed at a kiosk.

Printed tickets can be canceled at the UTS counter within one hour of printing.

Note that refunds are not given in cash; instead, the amount is credited to the user’s R-Wallet or refunded to their account, minus any applicable clerkage charges.

Steps to Cancel Your Ticket on the UTS App

  1. Log In to the UTS App: Open the UTS app and log in using your credentials. Click on the ‘Cancel’ button.
  2. Select Your Ticket: A new page will display all eligible tickets for cancellation. There is a flat cancellation charge of Rs 30. Tickets costing less than Rs 30 will not appear. Click on the ‘CANCEL TICKET’ button.
  3. Confirm Cancellation: The app will ask for confirmation of your cancellation decision. Click ‘OK’ to proceed.
  4. Check Refund Amount: A pop-up message will show the refund amount after deducting cancellation charges.
