The recent landslide in Wayanad has caused extensive damage, with hundreds of lives lost, many people missing, and thousands needing rescue.
In response, various agencies and organizations, including those from the telecom sector, have stepped in to support the affected communities.
Voda-Idea’s Support Initiative
Voda-Idea (Vi) has announced a significant relief measure for its users in Wayanad.
The company is offering 1 GB of free data daily for 7 days.
This additional data will be automatically credited to the users’ accounts.
Additionally, postpaid customers will have an extended bill payment period, allowing them to pay their bills 10 days after the usual due date.
Airtel’s Aid to Wayanad Flood Victims
Following the disaster, Airtel also extended support to its customers in Wayanad.
Airtel’s relief measures include:
Prepaid Users: 1 GB of free mobile data daily for three days, along with unlimited calling and 100 SMS per day.
Postpaid Users: An extended bill payment deadline by 30 days.
The Disaster and Ongoing Relief Efforts
The landslide, which struck Mundakkai, Choorlammala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha villages near Wayanad around 2 to 4 am on Monday night, caused widespread destruction.
Houses, bridges, roads, and vehicles were swept away.
Rescue operations are being carried out by teams from the Army, Air Force, NDRF, SDRF, Police, and Dog Squad.
So far, over a thousand people have been rescued, and 3,000 have been relocated to safe areas.
