Zomato’s Appeal Sparks Debate: Should Food Orders Pause in Afternoon Heat?

Amid rising temperatures, Zomato, the online food delivery company, has issued a special request to its customers.

Concerned about the scorching heat, Zomato urged people to order only essential items during hot afternoon hours.

In a statement, Zomato wrote, “Unless absolutely necessary, please refrain from ordering food during the peak afternoon heat.”

Mixed Reactions from Customers

Zomato’s plea elicited varied responses from customers. While some commended Zomato for its concern, others were critical.

One user advocated for suspending service between 12 noon and 4 pm, prioritizing humanity over profit. They stated, “We understand not ordering, but it’s more impactful if you suspend service.”

However, not all users agreed with Zomato’s request. Some found it impractical, questioning why Zomato couldn’t halt service during noon hours.

Another user expressed skepticism, stating, “Is this feasible? While we understand your concern, postponing lunch orders until dinner isn’t always possible. Zomato should clarify what constitutes ‘essential’ orders.”

Heatwave Toll

According to a report by the Times of India, the ongoing heatwave has claimed at least 61 lives in India as of May 31.

Tragically, 23 of these fatalities were workers on duty during the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
