5 New FASTag Rules you must know to avoid paying double Toll Tax

If you use FASTag, it’s important to know the new changes to avoid paying a heavy fine.

The government updated FASTag rules on February 17. Let’s go over these changes:

1. Blacklisted FASTag

If your FASTag is blacklisted, inactive, or has no balance for over an hour before reaching the toll booth, transactions won’t be possible.

If the FASTag remains blacklisted for 10 minutes after scanning, the payment will be rejected.

If any of these issues occur, the system will show error code 176, and you’ll be charged double the toll tax.

2. Grace Period for Recharging

You’ll have 70 minutes before reaching the toll booth to recharge or check the status of your FASTag.

If you recharge within 10 minutes after crossing the toll booth, you can get a refund of the penalty toll tax.

3. Additional Charges for Delayed Transactions

If you recharge your FASTag 15 minutes after crossing the toll booth, extra charges will apply.

If you were charged incorrectly due to a blacklisted or low-balance FASTag, you can file a complaint within 15 days to get a refund.

How These Rules Affect You

This means you can no longer do last-minute recharges. If you don’t recharge your FASTag an hour before the toll booth, recharging last minute won’t help.

You can get a penalty refund if you recharge within 10 minutes after scanning.

Always check your FASTag balance and the transaction status at the toll booth to spot any errors.

Key FASTag Tips

  1. Ensure there’s enough balance in your FASTag wallet.
  2. Regularly check your FASTag status to see if it’s blacklisted.
  3. Always verify FASTag activation to avoid rejections at toll booths.
